on overexposure

perhaps what scares us most about the current level of hyper-exposure on the internet is the lack of privacy we’re subjected to on a daily basis.  this is exacerbated by the current trend of over-sharing online.  like a rudimentary algebra equation, does it cancel itself out?  it’ll be ages before the ramifications of our extensive digital dishing become apparent.  i’ve succumbed to the fact that as a person who sings songs for a living, i have to get over feeling self-conscious or restricted about putting my inner-most thoughts out there.  if i let it get to me, i couldn’t write at all.  so i work for myself, i pretend there’s no audience.

we’ve entered a time where as a performer, it’s neglectful and to some extent, irresponsible not to utilize our current means of e-communication with fans and other musicians alike.  this element of networking is so crucial, especially as an independent artist.

the problem that most people run into, (however long it may take) is realizing that the many facets of communication we have available to us are no substitute for real interaction.  the secret is not moving onto the next big thing and hoping the interface finally clicks.  do you wonder why no matter how many glittery butterfly backgrounds you sift through, how many “which twilight vampire are you?” surveys you fill out, and how many hundreds of your favorite bands you list on your profile, it all seems so lifeless and unlike you?  that’s because it isn’t you.  it’s just a small fraction of your whole personality, streamlined and digitized for easy consumption.

i take pride that my digital “personality” is indicative of my real-life one, and i feel obligated to put out the welcome mat and let you guys in.  (digitally speaking, of course.)  there’s much more to me than songs, stupid youtube clips and twitter posts.  with that said, i’ve consolidated my entire online operation to this blog for the time being.  don’t be surprised to see new snippets of songs, drawings, stories, and dubious camera phone photos.  i’ll probably even post news articles that i dig, and maybe you’ll hear a song down the road and have had seen what inspired it.  ask me questions!  interact.  comment on things, give me gold stars, a thumbs up or a “like” and i’ll keep up the pace.  starting now, this is a two way street.

if you like what you see, please tell your friends!  repost on twitter, tumblr, facebook, myspace, mybook, facespace, twiblr or tumter.  it’s all about spreading the word.  anything that you can do to help allows me to continue to do what i do, only better.  (say that five times fast.)

i’ll keep you posted.
